I can not think of a single good reason to be pro-choice. Every argument I have heard advocating legalized abortion is callous, racist, or downright disrespectful of the sanctity of human life. Democrats are supposed to be the party looking out for the working man, the poor, and those that can help the poor, but overwhelmingly they are the ones I hear support this genocide of innocent American lives.
The argument I hear the most is, “A lot of people can't afford to raise children, and the adoption system in this country is abysmal.” Children should not have to die because their parents can't afford to take care of them. If the welfare system is too broken to support them, and the adoption and foster care system arn't well equipped then push for reform. Push for more money to be put into the systems. Don't be satisfied with children dying because the wealthy don't want to take care of them. Where is your compassion for the poor? Even people like Ron Paul think the wealthy should have to pay to take care of children who's parents do not have the means to take care of them. How can you care less about poor children then Ron Paul? What the fuck, Democrats?
The next argument I hear from Democrats is, “The woman shouldn't have to be inconvenienced with a pregnancy if she doesn't want to be.” Since when do we value the right to not be inconvenienced over the right to life? If a mother decides she doesn't want to get off the internet long enough to feed her baby and it starves to death, we call her a monster and lock her away. If someone witnesses another drown to death and doesn't help him or her even though it was safe to do so we call that person a monster and lock them away. We as a society have decided that human life is more valuable then not being inconvenienced, and we remain consistent throughout the law.
The last argument I hear is regarding situations of rape. “The mother was raped, so because she did not voluntarily risk pregnancy she should not have to carry to term.” Why should the unborn be punished for the sins of their fathers? It is not the babies fault the mother is pregnant anymore then it is the mothers. That is the same as saying, “It isn't my fault that man is sick, I shouldn't have to pay any taxes to help keep him alive.” So should Democrats stop pushing for national healthcare? No, they should stand up for the principle that every life is precious and worth more to the country then an individuals right to say “fuck you, I got mine.”
Pro-choice Democrats might as well just come out and say, “I like government handouts as long as they only benefit me and I don't have to take any responsibility for my actions.” Because thats what it makes the party look like to everyone else.

What about the Pro-Life Republicans how believe the only viable form of birth control is abstinence? Since people only have sex after they get married.

Girl is walking down the street.
She gets raped.
She is 13.
Her parents are divorced, and neither have the money to help support her and her child.
She has to drop out of Junior High School to take care of the baby full-time because her parents work full-time.
She has no education, and grows up to live in the streets, meanwhile her baby dies due to poor living conditions.
What a good life she has. If only she had an abortion. Hm...
I forgot to mention. In my previous example, it's noteworthy to point out that is it better for a baby to never have been born, or to grow up living a terrible life and ultimately succumbing to nothing but sickness and death?
It is more humane to spare a life of suffering than to let them live it.

What constitutes a life of suffering? "Poor living conditions"? According to....? Christ, do you know how many people you would need to put out of their future misery? I understand your angle, but that's one of a billion possibilities of that hypothetical girl and her child.
I just wish it was possible for people to simply state, very specifically, the level of development at which point that organization of cells is considered to have rights, then just stick to it.

Why is it so wrong to kill something that never thought or ever feared death. We kill animals. They don't think like we do. They don't experience the emotions that we do. Fetuses don't either.
I believe that abortion is wrong. I am not nearly as eloquent as the OP, but I can think of a few things. Current medicine makes it fairly safe for even children of 13 to bring the baby to near term, and the baby can be cared for completely in the hospital from the point of birth/Cesarean on. This is hardly an ideal solution for the mother or child, but it gives the chance of survival to both parties. The doctors told my mother that I would certainly die before birth, and if I didn't I would be deaf and retarded. (She insists they were right.) Predicting the health of a human and using the guess as ground for abortion is unfair. We need to push for every life as hard as possible, and I'll be the first one to ask for my tax money to go to preemie health as opposed to government exploration of galaxy FR-234b.
Animals never have the capacity for thought and emotions at the same level we do. Every fetus is potential for a Beethoven, a Gregoriyy, or even a me, though unlikely. While avoiding the sentience, self-aware argument, human life is the most important thing on the planet.

That's true, but almost every woman has the potential to create a child that could grow up to be the next Beethoven or Shakespeare, yet no one criticizes those who choose not to have kids. I think it's a silly argument and there are more important things on which to spend government time. But there are arguments either way so you should let people do it.

A fetus is a tiny little thing. It has no memories, no thoughts, no logical functions. It possesses no knowledge and is, overall, nothing more than a small piece of meat which no body cares about.
It does not die because it has never lived. If it was born it would be unwanted and thus most likely to grow into just another criminal due to neglect from the parents.
Saying abortion is wrong is like saying that every time you ejaculate due to masturbation you're killing thousands of "could be children".
human vegetables are in the same mental state - why isn't it legal to kill them? at least they will probably never have the potential to have memories, thoughts, or logical functions (if those even constitute anything protectable). a fetus will almost certainly have those functions if you just let it grow. not the case with sperm.

Aye, but each one of those sperm has the potential to impregnate a female's egg, and create a fetus.
A sperm, a egg and a fetus are not humans. And even if they were I wouldn't give two shits if people wanted to and could indeed rid themselves of them.

So what exactly are the pro-life and pro-choice policies? No abortions whatsoever or the right to abort an 8 month "fetus"?
Fuck that shit. The fetus achieves sapience at 20 weeks, from then on it's human.

>>21 As far as I can tell, most people who support abortion past the 20th week of pregnancy don't think it's morally acceptable per se, but recognise that even if it were made illegal, women would seek back-alley abortions which could very well end up killing the women as well as their unborn children. As a result, they regard legal abortions at that stage as the lesser of two evils - to be strongly discouraged, but allowed in extreme cases nonetheless.
I personally think it should definitely be legal past the twentieth week in cases of rape, danger to the mother's health, or clear demonstration of unfitness for motherhood. Other than that, I can't really say what I think, but as a male I don't particularly feel qualified to tell women what they can't do anyway, since it's a problem I'll never have to face.

Know what makes me fucking sick about pro-lifers? This:
The McCaugheys are one of many psychotic Christians who pump themselves full of fertility drugs to conceive. Refusing to selectively cull off some of the embryos, two of the children have serious medical problems.
So who's paying the bill?
Medicare.
Meaning us.
What's worse is that these fuckers used in vitro fertilization to conceive. Guess what that means. On average, about 20 embryos are discarded (read: dead) in this process. That means when these selfish fuckers go through something like this, they KILL 20 FERTILIZED, VIABLE embryos. As opposed to the ONE embryo a rape-victim would kill in an abortion.
