A mandatory University of Delaware program requires residence hall students to acknowledge that "all whites are racist" and offers them "treatment" for any incorrect attitudes regarding class, gender, religion, culture or sexuality they might hold upon entering the school, according to a civil rights group.

“A RACIST: A racist is one who is both privileged and socialized on the basis of race by a white supremacist (racist) system. The term applies to all white people (i.e., people of European descent) living in the United States, regardless of class, gender, religion, culture or sexuality. By this definition, people of color cannot be racists, because as peoples within the U.S. system, they do not have the power to back up their prejudices, hostilities, or acts of discrimination. (This does not deny the existence of such prejudices, hostilities, acts of rage or discrimination.)" - Page 3

“REVERSE RACISM: A term created and used by white people to deny their white privilege. Those in denial use the term reverse racism to refer to hostile behavior by people of color toward whites, and to affirmative action policies, which allegedly give 'preferential treatment' to people of color over whites. In the U.S., there is no such thing as 'reverse racism.'" - Page 3

“A NON-RACIST: A non-term. The term was created by whites to deny responsibility for systemic racism, to maintain an aura of innocence in the face of racial oppression, and to shift responsibility for that oppression from whites to people of color (called "blaming the victim"). Responsibility for perpetuating and legitimizing a racist system rests both on those who actively maintain it, and on those who refuse to challenge it. Silence is consent." - Page 3

"Have you ever heard a well-meaning white person say, 'I'm not a member of any race except the human race?' What she usually means by this statement is that she doesn't want to perpetuate racial categories by acknowledging that she is white. This is an evasion of responsibility for her participation in a system based on supremacy for white people." - Page 8

>>18  "But in truth- no matter to what extreme you try to vilify your opposition- it can be objectively said that this is a matter of political INcorrectness, is it not?"

I don't think this is political incorrectness.  But before we discuss this further, lets agree on what CONSTITUTES political correctness, at least for the sake of our discussion here and what the two of us have in mind when we think of the term and its meaning.  I view political correctness as simply being what will, on the whole, minimize "offense" to a given group of people - i.e. racial, cultural, sexual, etc.  In other words, what is 'offensive' would be politically incorrect imo.  Based on that, I think this could actually be considered "political correctness run amok" due to its excessive attempts to please minority communities.  I don't think this could be seen as political incorrectness because I don't see it being talked about much (if at all) in the MAINSTREAM media.  If it isn't bothersome enough a policy or action to warrant coverage by the mainstream media, it must not be offending the groups it hurts enough for them to raise a stink about it.  When you balance this out with the support of the groups whom the program would arguably benefit, the program is, on the whole, more politically correct than politically incorrect.

While I would agree that, depending on how you define political correctness, this may not actually BE a case of political correctness, I doubt VERY MUCH if you could HONESTLY say that this has NOTHING AT ALL TO DO with leftism vs rightism or progressivism vs conservatism.  For real, this is really leftism gone off the deep end.  Conservatives don't generally support garbage like this - and generally don't even support MILD preferential treatment of a similar flavor as you see here.  Indeed, most of the complaining about things like this does indeed come from the right.  So while I may agree it could be seen as debatable as to whether or not this is a case of political correctness, I am rather convinced that it IS a case of leftism gone off the deep end, and is certainly political in nature.
