In America Scientology is a recognised religion and in some schools mandatory in class. Here in Belgium Scientology has to face trial for extortion, being a criminal organisation, fraude and unlawful practice of medicine. Claims are that the 'church' extorts the followers, etc.

Traditional religions usually have a spiritual message for its believers (this message is usually the same throughout). Then churches sometimes build business and world rule on this spiritual foundation, but behind all of this, there's still a religion. This part is what's totally missing in the case of Scientology.
