For whatever reason...

... America goes to war in the middle-east. The price of gas increases, as the middle-east becomes volatile. As the price of gas rises, the fervor for alternative fuel-sources increases. Corn-oil, a popular alternative (oxymoron?) is developed into a very good fuel, which increases the value of corn. The second use of corn creates a higher demand of corn, raising its price. Since corn gets expensive, feeding livestock gets expensive. Since feeding livestock is expensive, the yield of livestock becomes expensive; making a gallon of milk costs four goddamn dollars.

Fuck Bush.

FAIL.  One-third of the US corn crop is already devoted to ethanol.  Diverting food crops into fuel crops is iconically stupid.  Expanding the base of corn is not possible since not all arable land is sufficient for corn.

OTHER THE OTHER HAND, non-food crops like switch grass not only produce more ethanol per acre raised, but it can also be grown on all those acres that are substandard (at best) for corn.

If the free market were really working here, the Congressional farm subsidies wouldn't exist, as they act behind the scenes to severe distort the ability of farmers and distributors to bring the best crops to market for the purpose.
