There are over 4200 bridges and tunnels in the USA with the same or lower rating as the I35 bridge which collapsed recently in Minnesota.  It ought to cost about $65 billion to bring all those 4200 up to par.  That's, what, 8 months of Iraq war cost?  But ... ah, PRIORITIES.  There are no Arab- or Persian-owned oil fields underneath any of those tunnels and bridges ... so, fuck the travelers.
