Did you know that before colonization that there were actually some African countries that were NOT victims of slavery? After Spain and other European countries took advantage of the African countries that sold their brothers, they generified all as being "black". "Black" simple came to be known as "Slave." The farther away your skin color was from black, the better.
Afterwards, in an effort to unify what leaders then felt to be an exclusive and homogeneous group of people, or a "Race". Irish, Italians, Spainish, were basically being referred to as being white.
What's important to realize is that this decision currently holds no scientific merit as it has no basis genetically. This was a decision made to unify the invaders and such techniques are being used on most western populaces to this very day.
