Now you have Hamas taking over, you can expect it to escalate even further since they are are not willing to budge at all until they have eliminated Israel off the map.
I was reading up general information on the conflict in Wikipedia, and it just makes me sad that after so many decades, the people in power over there just can't realize how wasteful the conflict is.

Ya know, that's why the Israelis took that land, plus the Golan Heights, in the first place. The Arabs were shelling Israeli towns with artillery from those areas, and also using them as staging areas for both conventional military attacks and terrorist attacks. This went on for DECADES.
The Arabs have never negotiated in good faith. NEVER. They seek only to gain at the bargaining table what they can't get on the battlefield. Every concession by Israel has been followed by the Arabs declaring it a victory, breaking their promises, and then coming back to the negotiating table to demand MORE.
I think there is only one solution here, and the Israelis have the means but not the will. Permanently annex all the land they won from the Arabs in 1967, which will leave Israel with semi-defensible borders. Then expel all the Arabs, every last one, every man, woman, and child. The ones in Gaza are Egyptians, the ones on the West Bank are Jordanians. Those governments can take them in and deal with them. Or not. Or turn them into Soylent Green. Whatever. Then the Israelis have to fortify the borders--land mines, barbed wire, 24/7 patrols by troops with orders to shoot on sight and shoot to kill. And then the Israelis will have to tell the Arab League, OPEC, and the United Nations to go take a flying fuck at a rolling bagel, and mean it.
The alternative is more of the "peace process," more negotiations with fanatical death-cultist terrorists for whom lies at the negotiation table are every bit as acceptable a weapon as suicide bombers blowing themselves up on buses full of Israeli schoolchildren, more concessions to people who say, "okay, we promised we'd end the terrorist attacks, but now we want the city of Eilat, and we'll stop when you give us THAT, we mean it this time, gimme gimme," and finally the same fate as Rhodesia: the Arabs will overrun them and exterminate them, even as they declare to the world press a "peaceful, democratic power-sharing agreement." And the left-wing press will paint it as "evil colonial racists getting their just desserts."
But maybe the last Jew will have the last laugh as he dies, because driving the Jews into the sea won't save the Arabs from their own savage, murderous nature any more than driving Whitey into the sea could suddenly make Rhodes--um, scuse me, Zimbabwe--into a modern air-conditioned industrialized paradise. The last Jews will not be dead before the towelheads are back at what they've been doing for all of recorded history, back at each other's throats, Sunni against Shi'ite against Wahhabi, Arab against Persian, monarchist against Marxist, Allah akbar and pass the ammunition. It'll be Lord of the Flies with AK47s instead of spears, until the ammunition runs out and the rifles break, and then they'll kill each other with sticks and stones. Forever. Look at Iraq today. Hell, look at Hamas and Fatah right now, and they haven't even won their jihad against the infidels yet. That is their future. Forever. It's what Arabs do, after all. It's what they do best.
