US + mexico merger?

I think it could work out pretty well.  Huge amounts of funding towards economic growth in the new Mexican states could stymy dangerous population shifts.  For the destitute in the new Greater United States of America, exciting careers in the (very wanting of personnel) GUS Army* await.  The whole illegal immigration problem would be a lot easier if we just had to police the much smaller border with Guatemala/Belize.

*from what I understand noncitizens can join the army and expedite their naturalization track, but this doesn't seem to be well promoted, so this idea seems like it would be more effective.

Last election showed that things can go over their heads pretty easily and once the union's done there will be enough Mexicans voting that those people are no longer relevant.
