USA and UK are like long lost brothers who just reunited.

And UK happened to be older to experience the cameras.

At least in the USA we have decent gun ownership liberties.

1984 totalitarianism is always just around the corner. The thing is if people didn't fear that 1984 totalitarianism was just around the corner they wouldn't do anything to stop it.

Most didn't fear it in UK and we can see what happened and gets worse each year. There were some backslash(most notably comic V for Vendetta was made as critique to UKs new police state like stance), but nowadays even that has been silenced. Same could happen on America. Remember Patriot Act. Next could be total surveillance act.
