Taiwan shall have full reign over itself!

Does it reign in Taiwan?

Name: Anonymous 2006-11-19 3:13

china and taiwan are the same fucking thing, political or not

taiwan is more like china every day, who's sitting in the government office makes no difference and the chinks know it damn well

they're pulling everything short of going to war to "win" taiwan over because thats the only way it'll be profitable, sovereignty is just a word in the dictionary

all the chinks up in arms about taiwan are just government tools, and all the taiwanese roused about occupation are just reactionaries

I have never met a single Taiwanese who wasn't ready to kick the living shit out of anyone who even SUGGESTED that Taiwan was a part of China.  I've almost gotten drawn into fights by asking if Taiwanese language is a dialect of Chinese, just like Cantonese.  The short of it is, the Taiwanese who want to maintain independence are very much in the majority and cannot be dismissed simply as reactionaries.

The very fact that they can elect their leaders gives them the pride to lift a middle finger to the PRC's bullying.  And the fact that the Taiwanese actually LIKE the Japanese and look up to them makes their culture significantly different from mainland China.

>>taiwan is more like china every day
Maybe so, but that is heavily due to Taiwanese investment in the mainland. You've got your causal relationship confused.

Just because people are extremely delusional doesn't mean they're right.

As a Taiwanese person, I don't really mind whether we're independent or "owned" by China. Either way, there are larger issues in Taiwan such as living conditions that need to be improved.

Also, I'm disappointed in my president. People actually thought he wouldn't get corrupted.

I just mean that it seems to be the overwhelming opinion of natives of the land in question believe Taiwan to be an independent country.  And if that IS what they want, then we have an obligation to respect it, out of a principle of national self-determination.

This is much more true for Taiwan than it is for secessionist groups in countries such as Thailand or East Timor, because the land is already succinctly divided, has a long history of self government, and is already in possession of a democratic freely elected government and administration sytem.

What the shit? Taiwan is not more like China every day. Taiwanese national identity has completed flipped over the last 30 years, and now the majority of people on Taiwan consider themselves "Taiwanese" rather than "Chinese." This was not the case just 16 years ago. The longer they're apart, the more they grow distant.

Good point.

Taiwan has a bigger navy than Britian. Also Most of chinas milltary forces are badly equipped with cheap Soviet knock off arms. The Chinks would get the loving shit kicked out of them. People go on about china being a future super power; and that may be true, buts its nots a milltary superpower yet.

Its of course going to be a economic one. (The Europion union is alway one.)
