VOTEPACT!

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-31 19:54

Stop fighting over which party is better people.  We all know they both suck for various reasons depending on your viewpoint, and there are obviously better alternatives out there.  What is the solution you ask?  Votepact!

http://www.counterpunch.org/husseini10192006.html

If you lean left, yet support some 3rd party, be it green, libertarian, whatever... find someone you know who leans right who also supports a 3rd party, and enter a 'votepact' not to vote for any major party this election.

This eliminates the spoiler effect.  Since one of you would vote dem out of fear the repubs would win, and one would vote repub out of fear the dems would win, what you do is both votepact and vote for the 3rd party of your choice, whatever that is.  This way, your votes won't simply cancel each other out, and you are now free of the two party system, free to vote how you please without the fear that the greater of the two evils will take office if you don't vote for a lesser evil.

If you don't trust the person you are in a votepact with, fill out absentee ballots together so you know neither person will cheat.

Good idea.  Seconded.

This is how the political process in the US works:
1. A problem emerges that neither of the two major parties really has an adequate solution to, or refuses to address.
2. A 3rd party is created on the platform of solving that specific problem; if it's severe enough, people will start voting for it.
3. The two major parties realize that pretending to address the issue will garner votes, so they start stealing ideas from the 3rd party.
4. Without any distinguishing traits left, the 3rd party withers away and dies.

Good idea.  I don't much care for the website though.

That's a fantastic idea.  All it needs is a little more publicity and money behind it and it could become a substantial force.

I wonder how many prohibition support are left in the U.N.
