The facts about the 'gun show loophole' bs I've been hearing about all the time.

A tip of the hat to the CATO Institute.

the cato institute is one of the premiere republican thinktanks or that's what I remember hearing.  as for this.  they're responding to bogus figures with things like 2&3% and saying that only 2 police chiefs out of 50 consider it a "major" problem.  rape isn't a "major" problem where I am because I'm in an affluent area. . .  so of course that means all rape laws should be purged from the books.

is this the end all be all article on gun show problems?  I give it credit for putting forward the straw buy problem, but it's an example of political spin.  it's pretty subtle about how it's trying to discredit a democratic push against gun fucks

"a "major" problem.  rape isn't a "major" problem where I am because I'm in an affluent area. . .  so of course that means all rape laws should be purged from the books."

To quote from the article:

"Conversely, people who are not engaged in the business of selling firearms, but who sell firearms from time to time (such as a man who sells a hunting rifle to his brother-in-law), are not required to obtain the federal license required of gun dealers or to call the FBI before completing the sale.

Similarly, if a gun collector dies and his widow wants to sell the guns, she does not need a federal firearms license because she is just selling off inherited property and is not "engaged in the business." And if the widow doesn't want to sell her deceased husband's guns by taking out a classified ad in the newspaper, it is lawful for her to rent a table at a gun show and sell the entire collection."

So to translate, there is no such thing as a 'gun show loophole'.  A 'loophole' is way of escaping a difficulty, especially an omission or ambiguity in the wording of a contract or law that provides a means of evading compliance.  But the law was written this way intentionally.  The people are not finding 'loopholes' in the wording that they can work around to avoid complying - they ARE complying with the law as it was intended to be complied with.  'Gun show loophole' is just a stupid term invented by Handgun Control Inc. to get stupid anti-gun pieces of shit like you all riled up over nothing.

"it's an example of political spin.  it's pretty subtle about how it's trying to discredit a democratic push against gun fucks"

There is no good enough reason to promote or support the democratic push 'against gun fucks' (law abiding gun owners with an interest in guns).  Have you ever handled a gun? Have you ever gone to the range? The choice of language that you used would lead me to the conclusion that no, you have not.  You are irrationally afraid of guns, gun shows, and gun owners, or as you like to call them .... 'gun fucks'.

Do you notice how rare it is in the United States that a pro-gun person tells you you MUST own firearms? I can think of ONE area in the entire United States with mandatory gun ownership.  The vast majority of gun owners accept that guns are a personal issue.  The vast majority of anti-gun people are those who would like to project their shitty viewpoint onto everyone else and into everyone elses' lives via the Federal Government.

To translate:  if you don't like guns, don't buy one.  Just leave those who DO alone.

Duh, aren't gun shows supposed to be gatherings of hobbyists? It would make no sense that hobbyists aren't allowed to sell their stuff at their events. Just think about all the gun collectors trading their collections.

>>14 Exactly.  The so-called 'loophole' was put into the law on purpose to protect people who weren't actual 'gun-dealers' who are just doing something like giving a hunting rifle to a brother or friend or something of this nature.  It isn't a loophole, it was put there on purpose.
