Iran's quest for neuclear power

Name: thatoneguy 2006-09-21 14:41

Lately Iran has been in the news quite a bit with their desire for peacefull neuclear power. Can someone tell me why the western world should trust a ccuntry as unstable as Iran with neuclear power? They clearly do not want neuclear power for peacefull purposes, if they did then they would have accepted the United State's offer to supply Iran with reactor fuel. The simple fact of the matter is that Iran cannot be trusted with neuclear power. They are too much of a risk, not only to the U.S., but to the rest of the world. When the leader of a nation states that another nation has no right to exist and should be "wiped off the face of the world" they simply cannot be trusted with neuclear capabilities.

>>25 Well, I think it can't be trusted that far. The problem with Islamism is that you get enemies no matter what you do - either your culture is seen as offensive or spreading into your territory via airwaves, or some of your capitalist offshoots gets in their eyes. I mean, getting rid of Mossadegh was silly, imperialist and vile, the invasion of Afghanistan was a joke, and attacking Iraq (of all Muslim nations) fucked any credibility America had regarding it's capacity for strictly acting in self-defense. I mean, the left is quite lousy at targetting even obviously unacceptable actions of muslims, but there was no sense of strategic, moral, ethical, utilitarian or economical know-how in the execution, hence the resistance. I think the democrats were a bit inaccurate in their criticism of the war (possibly a horrified, knee-jerk reaction to seeing a dubious christianist get 90% approval just for grandstanding and waving his dick) while the European disapproval is a result of distaste for the American government (memories of the Cold War, poor intelligence, poor planning) rather than an act of appeasing indigenous muslims. But, multi-culturalism isn't always the answer. Europe and America didn't get to where we are by bending over or just by raping other countries. We got there because our religion started flexing when humans wanted to stand on their own legs.
