Japanese Constitution and War

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-04 23:23

Earlier on /b/ someone brought up the argument over whether or not Japan should amend it's constitution to allow them to have a military (Other than their Self Defence Force.) and the priveledge of declaring war. Although there was much faggotry in the original topic, there were some good points made:

1. The original premise of the original article, Article 9. of the Japanese Constitution was forced on the Japanese by America when we still didn't really trust them. I think 60 Years of not only peace but huge amounts of economic and cultural cooperation  and exchange have built enough trust that they probably aren't gonna try and invade China and conquer the world again.

2. Allowing Japan to have a regular military would allow the U.S. to redeploy it's forces in Japan to more strategic regions.

3. America is woefully short of military allies in East Asia, Japan would be a huge stratigic bonus to keep North Korea in line.
