national pride

is your country a proud country? do you feel any pride for being a citizen of a particular country?

i live in austrayerland and in the media, there is an exaggerated idea of 'being australian' and 'australian way' but a lot of people including myself don't take it seriously or care. of course there are those small core groups who are nationalists but they're rare.
and my citizenship probably counts for 0.7% of my identity. i don't feel much affinity with my countrymen. my loyalties pretty much extend to preferring our sporting teams to win in international competitions. that's about it.

I'm aussie too, and i agree. But whenever i travel ive never seen a country that i would prefer over Australia. I'm not a country moron who cannot see flaws in his own country, but i do like Australia. I even joined the military 2 years ago (although that was because they payed off all my hecs), and in 2 years i'll probably get my commission, so yeah i;m a proud aussie.

I'm also not rascist, most of my freinds are only first generation Australian.

Its too bad that being a proud Australian these days is also usually tied to a current affair rascist crap they put on the TV every night.

I'm proud of my country.. or at least what it was founded upon.  (From the USA.)  I'm also proud of certain things americans have done in the past... like drinking alcohol just to spite the government during the prohibition period.

i think 'proud' has bad implications behind it, as a word. we need a new word or phrase. "glad to be australian" is one alternative. 'proud' is associated with annoying hotheaded people. it's fine to be happy about your country as long as you're not a dick about it.

Same as >>4 I feel proud about the ideals my country was based on, however it is for that reason that I can't really be proud of my country today as I feel that it has lost those ideals.  Both the government and the people.

I'm not one of these liberals who thinks a TV show is racist because "there arnt enuf black faces", but I believe pride is wrong also.

However I actually have a reason, being that pride for being born something or somewhere isn't a legitimate logical reason to be proud. For instance white pride is stupid. Also black pride is stupid.

The irregularities in certain communities in rural Florida that many democrats speak of are hyped up to say the least.  These said irregularities are easilly explained away by looking at past voter trends.. see article.

    >>7 exactly, you aren't going to change the democrats by voting for them.  making a protest vote for a different party the next election is the way to go.  I recommend the libertarian party.
