Why does the US still support Israel?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-22 11:29

Year after year the US has been sending funds to Israel, supporting its military, and allowing congress to be bribed by Israeli lobby groups.  Now would be the perfect time to reject Israel and its lobbyists, condemn its actions, and stop funding a military that the international community finds reprehensible.

Oh wait, we still believe Israel is the land of God's chosen people, meant to exist until the apocalypse begins, allowing Jesus to return and fulfill the book of Revelations, waging war on the Satan controlled armies of Middle Eastern terrorists.  So until that day comes, it looks like we'll still be sending them money and offering our support.

I'm actually listening to the armageddon viewpoint on CNN right now.

>>2 Yup, all those Islamic states and they never amount to anything close to what the Israelis have done under immense pressure. Partially this is because of western involvement and destruction, but we must not forget the tribalism, the hierarchies and the fact that in some cases half the population isn't allowed to contribute.
Then again, the Israelis got a short-sighted deal that was very much to their favor, and their relative superiority came at the expense of their conscience and victimhood as they resorted to torture, oppression, gentrification, brutality and debasement as a collective punisher and mollifyer. Conservatives can talk all they want about Islam being territorial and intrinsically violent, but we should try to put ourselves in the Palestinian position; imagine hearing about a guy in your class having his arm broken and jumped on just because he was accused of throwing rocks at a bulldozer mowing down his uncle's house. I can't approve of any part in the conflict, although I can not disapprove of the existence of the Israeli state, sung in excess though it may be by the neos. I think the entire conception was shitty, and before any side could denounce their pathetic religious convictions and maschismo, they started a vicious circle that drew everybody out of a reasonable position. Both sides, both ethnicities and religions are essentially making a sort of broth out of each other, and instead of getting out of the pot they are trying to strangle each other. Pitiful but very human and forgivable, if you ask me.
I sincerely hope that Israel hasn't bitten off more than it can chew now, because I can't see the American public not making the same pendulum swing towards isolationism as they did after WW II. That would be understandable, considering how little the stripping of education, facilities and utilities has amounted to. This is on the other hand exactly what neos and right-leaning libertarians like - the military eclipsing the social expenditures at a time of great strain upon the safety-net system could cause a collapse comparable to IX XI, leaving the population searching for an immediate, attractive alternative (with some fine print that no one has time to read). I think many companies are awaiting that crisis with the same anticipation as the zionists and evangelicals did once they realized that IX XI was as probable and suggested as it was.
I think Wolfowitz tried to destroy the Saudis by flooding the market with US-controlled oil from Afg. and Irq., and by choosing such poor targets and failing to consider the ramifications and risks, he may have denied Israel its only sincere ally in what could be an insurmountable task.
Meanwhile, Iran is making that nuke. Has anyone read that document that details how we almost faced nuclear holocaust during the Cold War save for one American submarine commander? We can't take anything for granted thanks to religion and Socialist Europea's dependence on others. then there's China and India.
Being 17 and without genetical diseases, I think there is a high chance I'll see the greatest conflict since WW II during my lifetime. Also, if I sound like a conspiracy theorist, I apologize. I am perfectly ready to shape my positions and opinions should heavier facts or better analyses come my way.
