They are too arrogant to criticise themselves, so the only way to get things done is to have someone else do it for them. So in America, ignorance is seen as strength, since the less likely your followers are to listen to the opposition, the easier they are to bullshit and since they never criticise themselves they won't eventually figure it out. This goes for both conservatives and liberals.
