Crimes of Woodward

I'm confused about this, so help me get through the the FUD.

It came to light that Woodward was told about Valerie Plame's identity, at some time prior to the scandal breaking out.

Now he's being portrayed as someone who should suffer the same consequences as Libby.

But, AFAIK Woodward never leaked the name to anyone. Doesn't the actual fault lie with whatever government worker who told him the name? And isn't it a *good* thing that Woodward, in turn, did not leak the name to protect her identity?

I do agree he should have been more upfront about helping the special prosector guy, but all things aside the chilling effect of Judith Miller getting jailed certainly affected his decision.

It's supposed to sound like this gets Libby off the hook; but regardless of who knew what, when, Libby still committed perjury, which is what I believe they are getting him for in criminal court.

So regardless of the information status, Libby is still in fact, in trouble for lying, right? So roughly:

Libby = Still screwed for perjury
Woodward = Should have spoken up but didn't actually commit any crimes

Right?

It doesn't matter whether they leaked her fucking name of not if they didn't KNOW she was a covert agent in the past 5 years, according to the law, and hey, guess what, she wasn't one in the past 5 years! Where's the crime in all of this!? Stupid liberals... D:
