Employment for minors

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-23 13:55

Yes, employing anyone under 18 is seen as a taboo reserved for the poor countries we rely on for manufacturing, the exception being 16 with a permit or younger for paid chores such as lawnmowing.  But really, what do kids have to do besides homework, sports, TV, reading, and video games?  Kids from 10-18 can still do jobs that are humane and fair, and get paid minimum wage.  As long as the standards of US employment are upheld (no sweatshops, mining, heavy industrial, etc), and as long as minors agree to the job along with their gaurdian or parent, then why not let them work?  If they enjoy making money, and have some personal responsibility or maturity, then why not?  Otherwise, TV and video games is fine.

I dont even know what kids do anymore. when i was young I had 3 dirt bikes and miles of forest. as I grew up those miles of forest turned to a mile then even smaller as subdivisions popped up. miles of off road trials gone. there is nothing to do anymore for kids.
