Political discussion accomplishes nothing

You're not directly affecting politics by analyzing and discussing politics, especially the more mundane daily points.  Major world issues MIGHT inspire someone to sign a petition or go down the street carrying a sign, but really, it's not going to impact much.  Basically, it goes like this:

1.  Hey, it looks like 100,000 were killed in an avalanche yesterday, and the president wants to bomb Uzbekistan for no apparent reason.

2.  You're right, that is a tragedy.  I'm going to go on the radio and discuss this with Rush Limbaugh, then tell others how horrible it is.  After that I'm going to sit at home, drink beer, and watch Everybody Loves Raymond.

3.  ARRRR!  I'm a Republican!  Must overtake senate!

4.  Sigh, being a Democrat, I am forced to sit at this cafe and order cappucinno after cappuccinno.  If only the Republicans were dead right now...

etc.

Instend of it being useless all together, I thinks it's more or less the arena where it's discussed. You can't expect to come to a place like 4chan or any kind of online circle and get informed, educated responces to discussions about current political events. We all know how teenagers respond to anything concervatve here, and on other fourms. Personally, I think the art of online discussion is dead. People seem to be resorting to flaming or just completely blantent, baseless outcries or anger. Sit down and read a newspaper or watch the news before you come into a discussion and say things like "OMG THAT FAG BUSH!!! NO WMDs IN IRAQ!!! WHAT A FUCK FACE!!!" With even the slighest inquery into the WMD matter would revel that a laughable statement. Concervative are no more innocent, but it's usally the liberal side thats been doing all the factless finger-pointing these days. It just comes down knowledgeable, informed dicussions being the only ones of true value to a online community.
