The first black man I ever met was in 1073 when I was 20 years old. I had just arrived at Fort Dix,NJ for Basic Training. I enlisted so I could choose my school of choice, my draft number was 12. I grew up in a small town in KY, about 800 people. There were zero black families. Spud and I hit it right off. The first night he called his parents, talked to his father. The maid at home had transferred Spud ( actually Claude ) to where his parents were dining. They were at the WH having a private dinner ( Duck L'Orange ). You see, his father was "Chappy" James, the first black man ever to reach the rank of 4-star general in the AF. Spud got me high for my first time, we sneaked off post several times and took a cab to Trenton, little club called the "Chit Chat" Anybody know it? I was the only white face there, on any visit. Never a problem.
It was funny, his dad outranked the post commander so when he came to graduation he ended up giving the commencement speech instead. You see, Spud's brother had dutifully joined the AF and was already a major. Spud was an E-1 in the Army. Last time I saw him it was at the unveiling of a statue honoring his father.
>>1 Hey /new/ do you have any close black friends?
I have one. He's not a "full black" as he's more mixed-race than anything. Or jewish[sic]
I've had a couple of teachers in school who were of Jewish descent. They were pleasant and rather perky people.
I don't know what any of this has to do with "World News".
