Wikileaks Twitter Account Subpoenaed.

Name: New Anonymous Member 2011-01-09 4:13

Wikileaks Twitter account has now been subpoenaed. Part of the reason is to target wikileaks's followers as part of the feds' witch hunt against Anonymous. If you follow wikileaks' Twitter (as I have) you may need legal assistance.

I might go down to the ACLU office come Monday morning.

Ironically, Greasemonkey was blocking a thread I didn't care about from appearing.

Full story Above

As the Wikileaks saga has unfolded, Twitter has been one of the main forums where supporters and opponents of the whistle-blowing site have debated the issues. Now the social network has been dragged into the affair, as the US authorities pursue a case against Wikileaks.

This leaves Twitter executives in a very difficult position. Like all social networks, they have been keen to stress that they comply with local laws, especially when it comes to tracking down criminals. But they have also been eager to promote Twitter's role as a forum for free expression in countries like Iran.

If confidential details of overseas Twitter users are disclosed to the US authorities, how keen will an international audience be to trust this or other American social networks in future?

There are some things I don't understand.
First of all, there are followers from all over the world. Each country has its own laws, yet the internet is a place where none of them apply the same way as they do in their corresponding countries. So what happens to a guy from Spain, for example?
Also, the DOJ claims it's asking the info on Twitter so it can be used as a part of a criminal investigation. The thing is,did they state the criminal act?If they did, what is it?If they didn't and they claim to be doing it for wikileaks,is there a criminal act wikileaks' "employers" are being blamed for?
