Take a look at statistics of IQ across the world. Africa is at the rock bottom of that list. We use mules, horses, cows, cats and dogs as slaves and entertainment, the reason being that they're simply not as intelligent and civilized as we are.
We went to Africa and found a human ape, but later on somebody managed to teach it our language, and we assumed that the ability to speak would be the ultimate sign of civilized intelligence.
