No, it's pretty much fact. It really helps when people segregate a race - you can be sure that what they've come up with, they've come up with themselves.
Blacks came up with the blues.
Jazz started in New Orleans brothels. Jelly Roll Morton, one of the pioneers, was certainly not white. They didn't call Creole white back then. Not sure if they do now. Don't think so.
Rhythm and blues, the precursor to rock & roll, was actually known as "race music," or "coloured music," before an editor at Billboard came up with something else. It referred to what was popular in the "black" charts, and turned out to have a sound of its own. You had dance R&B with Louis Jordan, club R&B with Nat King Cole, etc. Of course, "Rocket 88" is often called the first rock & roll song - and was written by Ike Turner. Remind me what race he was again?
Rock & roll itself was the synthesis of country and R&B - the two shunned genres of the USA. Bill Haley did his part with "Rock Around The Clock" and other such numbers - he was white. Dizzie Gillespie, who pioneered bebop, and Jimi Hendrix, star of the West Coast psychedelic scene, were not.
Don't get me wrong - there was a lot of great music made by white artists. A lot of them made the definitive music for their genres. However, when it comes to creating the big genres - rock, jazz, soul, funk, hiphop etc. - blacks have been largely responsible. Punk is the notable exception. That was masterminded by a London fashion designer in order to sell his clothes.
