Mohammad cartoon kidnap threats

If I never needed a reason to label Muslims as animals, it has to be this. Now they want an official apology from the EU, or else they will start kidnapping people.

You know, over a CARTOON in a magazine.

The Dutch can do whatever the fuck they want. It's their country, their magazine, and their right of free speech.

Haven't Muslims (as well as every other group, religion, or ethnicity) been made fun of in one publication or another? Will they really have a jihad against the creators of every single offensive piece of literature that doesn't portray Muslims in the best possible light?

They have every right to be offended. But if they could carry on like civil human beings instead of animals, maybe the rest of the world would actually accept them.

I think you'll find it's a very small (but very loud) percentage of the Muslim population who have extremist veiws. It just so happens that they ARE in media hotspots at the moment like Palestine and are therefore getting way too much exposure than they deserve.

From personal experience, Muslims generally fall into 4 catagories.

1. Extremist, who really do (as pointed out in another thread) have the reasoning power of zombies.

2. Moderate #1, who are just like normal law-abiding folk but who secretly agree with the extremist views. (Weak-minded, don't tend to question anybody who appears to know what they are talking about)

3. Moderate #2, who are just like normal law-abiding folk but who cringe everytime extremists do something stupid like this. (Have a ounce of intelligence and have a much broader view of the world).

4. The ones (like me) that leave Islam totally and become athiest or agnostic due to the fact that they refuse to believe in the existance of God.

My parents probably fall into catagory 3, my grandparents would be a catagory 2, and the bloke who runs the mosque down the road is a catagory 1.

So what's my point?
-Yes, Islam is not the coolest religion to be associated with at the moment. (I don't intend on having my name changed anytime soon so I guess I'm going to have to live with that one)

-It's only a few fags who are giving Islam this image, and their views are being amplified by the media.

-The moderates who are sheep-like and decide to agree with them aren't really helping.

-The moderates who don't agree try not to talk about it and instead will bring up other topics of discussion.

-I sit back and watch the carnage.


My view on the matter?
Muslims haven't learnt from the Salman Rushdie incident. The book was shit, nobody would have read it otherwise. The only reason people read it was out of curiosity from all of the controversy it stirred up. If they didn't make such a fuss about it, it would have died out and not many people would have cared.

Similarly, there was no need for this to have been blown out of proportion by the Muslim community. It only harms the Muslim community in the long run because it will polarise people's view of Muslims and make them out to be pretty backward (it's only a fucking cartoon, by a right-wing paper. Let it slide for fuck's sake).
