PETA Billboards Claim Fish Friends, Not Food

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-18 21:50

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Four billboards sponsored by the People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals have caused some controversy in Newport Beach
Wednesday, NBC4 reported.

The billboards, which depict model Carre Otis dressed as a mermaid covered
with scales and paired with the tagline, "Fish Are Friends, Not Food!,
" are part of PETA's national "Fish Empathy Project."

The project hopes to convince residents of the seaside Southland town that
fish are not only intelligent, but eating fish may hurt consumers due to
the possibly dangerous levels of mercury in seafood.

"There has been evidence that children have been slowing down mentally and
physically, having physical problems that were due directly to eating too
much tuna fish," Lisa Lange, a PETA spokeswoman, said.

Some local fisherman like their fish as food, however.

"The oceans pretty much cleanse themselves," fisherman Mike McNamara said. "There's a lot of fishing in the Great Lakes where I'm from as well.
It's surprising that I would hear that."

PETA maintains that fish are interestig and intelligent, much like dogs
and cats.

"Fish are not swimming vegetables, they're complex and intelligent animals
who feel fear and pain, just like we do," said PETA President Ingrid E.
Newkirk, in a PETA press release. "We're asking people to get hooked on
compassion and go vegetarian."

Yeah? How the fuck do they think they got here? What, the human race didn't eat?

I don't understand this shit at all. We're not the only fucking life on this planet that eats other life.

This is just stupid. FISH? They're FISH. Man has been eating fish for HOW LONG NOW. How many humans and other life have depended on said fish to survive?

Also, last time I checked plants felt pain too. I wonder what they would say to that if they found that out? Oh wait, probably nothing because they have thier heads stuck up thier asses
so far they couldn't hear you.

Go fuck yourselves PETA.

I'd like to see PETA campaign for the rights of insects and pest. It's kinda ironic thateven though PETA is about animal rights, they never campaign against the killing of rats through pest control of the right of the garbage fly.

That why I always see animal rights campaign having no substabce.

Animals eat other animals, I don't really see it as an issue of compassion. That's just the way in which the biological process of the earth has existed for many millions of years. There's nothing inherently wrong about it, the idea that eating other living being's is somehow wrong is a creation of humans. The only reason why cannibalism is looked upon as innapropriate is because it runs counter to the requirements necessary for a functioning civilization and it just is unpleasant. But then again, life isn't supposed to be pleasant.

>>2 "Man has been eating fish for HOW LONG NOW."

I'm sure the pro-slavery cause chanted something like "Man has been enslaving the inferior races for HOW LONG NOW." Simply because something is tradition means it's justifiable? Does that apply to all the Biblical genocide that was justified by the book? Does it apply to the Jews right to the Holyland? Does it apply to Germany, England's, and Rome's global conquest? What about female inferiority and them having less rights than men? What about racism? These things have been around for thousands of years, and you want to change them now?

Civilization matures, it learns, it forms new philosophies on what is right and what is wrong. Using the "but we used to do it" excuse is fucking stupid. Do you sack pigeons and roast them when you go to the beach? No, because this isn't the fucking 1600s. Do you shoot animals you see while you're sitting on the train? No, because this isn't the fucking 1800s. Times are changing buddy, and you will change with them whether you like it or not, so when it's 2040 and the truth finally comes out on where all that cancer came from, you'll say “damn I should have listened to that guy on 4chan.”

I like eating fish.  Does that make me Hitler?

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-19 14:25

This is why noone takes PETA seriously. It has more to do with being a militant fucktard than preventing cruelty to animals. See the RSPCA for comparison.

What the fuck? Comparing slavery to eating fish? You must be even more of a moron then you sound.

Eating fish isn't a tradition. Eating fish is how you survive. Eating fish is what they had to do to live. Eating ANYTHING is what you do to LIVE you dumbfuck.

It may not be ancient times anymore. A time when we had to go out and hunt for our own food. But that doesn't mean it's okay to go around attacking people who eat other animals to, you know, LIVE. Especially under something as stupid as 'oh they feel pain!!'. Because frankly, alot of things you eat is going to feel pain when they die. Even your special plants.

I'm sorry, but try again and this time dont try to compare things that have nothing to do with each other. k?

Haha. I don't even know why I waste my time with morons like you. Eat your meat, die when you're 35, one less douchebag on 4chan.

meny vegetarians eat fish

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-19 18:50

I want to see a campaign against the consumption of vegetables. Plants feel pain! They are intelligent. Lets us not eat anything at all but drink water only.

Yea, we'll eat meat, stay healthy and live till YOUR 35. Its kind of funny you never see any older healthy vegitarians. (You rememeber that one old surfing vegetarian lady on tv? Looked like she was a walking corpse). Our bodies need meat, we need it for our muscles. We also need vegetables, fruits, and breads. You cant just eat vegetables, its not good for you.

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-19 21:23

and you'll live till your 35^^

Fish are delicious friends. Fuck those PETA fags.

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-20 10:59

PETA is an example of whats bad of the hippie culture.

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-21 7:41

I'm a level 5 vegan. I won't eat anything that casts a shadow.

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-21 10:07

It's nice to see how the open source hippies/talibans who'll say even Bill Gates' farts are worse than Richard Stallman's are so easily influenced against an NGO by powerful food corporation lobbies through the media and the intarweb.

There are examples of what's good with the hippie culture?

Because of hippie culture, gays and minorities have vastly more rights than they did 40 years ago. And yes, this is a good thing.

purely debatable. As a black man I would put my trust in a guntoting commie before some weak-kneed pacifist 'moonchylde' twit. I want to still be LIVING when the reparations come rolling in.

oh, oh yeah? well I'm a level 6 vegan, I don't even breathe! Think of how many micro organisms are slain by your foul nosehairs attempting to float peacefully through the air! Oh no, wait, just think of how many are on the keyboard! Well, I am dismantling my keyboard and computer at the end of this post, you'll see no more hypocrasy from this experienced vegan! Level 7 veganism here I come, and then......SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT! Goodbye you filthy meatbags, I'm gonna be like Q or something, and fuck with alla ya'll while you can't do anything back. That'll learn you to doubt the power of VEGAN!

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-23 2:10

actually do you think PETA exists as a plant, to badmouth vegans and animal righters?

Name: Vinz 2005-08-23 18:15

>>23
Nah I'm sticking with "They're just stupid hippies that need to burninate."
They sort of remind me of turn-of-the-century anarchists without bombs, staging all these showy demonstrations when they only believe in around 10% of what they're spewing. Don't know too many actual animal rightists that like PeTA at all, but the vegans're stupid enough to buy all that bullshit. So I'd say they deserve some serious badmouthing. (It's not like you could meet vocal vegans who are really about the core beliefs anyway, good ones are too scared to 'come out' now thanks to PeTArds. You'll just have to listen for people who ask for dishes with no animal products and don't fly off the handle when told they don't carry X dish vegan style.)

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-23 20:08

Didn't we decide like ten years ago that mercury posioning from fish was largely over-reaction? K.

PETA has always been ridiculous, and the biggest problem is that plenty of normal, sane vegetarians let these assholes represent them. There are plenty of reasonable vegans that have seen or read about what goes on in meat farms and it bothers them so they make the reasonable descision not to consume the product.

PETA has more to do about getting worked up about a cause and attracting the moral hobbyists than anything else.

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-25 9:46

who cares what happens in meat farms. the animals die in the end, don't they?

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-28 1:41

do what now?

Also, I hope the first alien race we ever make contact with are sentient plants. THAT'LL LEARN'EM. (If they're even around by then, lol...I know I'm certainly planning a spree or two once I got the resources.)

this a good link about PETA:

http://thatvideosite.com/view/709.html

basically, Penn & Teller call Bullshit! on PETA.

Name: Anonymous 2005-09-17 4:18

Vegans define themselves through what they eat because the rest of them is empty, lifeless and dead.
They have no personality that goes beyond what they eat, they never change and they do everything in their power to piss other people off so they can keep their vegan world for themselves.
Seriously, a less militant approach would work 1000 times better.

These quotes cannot possibly be real. HOLY SHIT. I feel like I'm going to be sick merely because I'm the same species as these idiots.

I'd really like to know how PETA have come to be so huge. They seem to have quite a lot of cash.

It always pains me to see intelligent people who beliefs are crap. Stop holding onto equality like some sort of holy grail. It doesn't exist and cannot possibly ever exist. If your religious, I recommend you read about evolution. If you believe in evolution, then I suggest you consider how society works through the glasses of evolution.

I've learnt that the hardest truths to see are those right in front of you, the beliefs that you hold so sacred that you don't question them. I suggest you strictly question what you find unquestionable.

i'm scared of eating fish because of the mercury.  i would however like to eat a member of peta.  wearing a fur coat.  with puppy slippers.  no, real puppies.
