Is this new constitution for real?
I'm an American, and I don't follow Japanese politics much, but there is a (superficially at least) similar phenomenon in American politics. From time to time, when a controversial issue is in the public eye, the far right ideologue wing of the Republican party in the US will introduce a Constitutional amendment. It is invariably quietly forgotten and allowed to die in committee as soon as something else gets the public's attention. It isn't for real. They're just acting, for the cameras. They are doing this in order to be able to claim they did something when the next elections come.
Is this proposed new constitution for Japan for real? Or are the politicians just cynically play-acting for the cameras?
