Powerful Earthquake Strikes Iran

TEHRAN (Reuters) - A strong earthquake hit southeast Iran on Tuesday, killing almost 400 people, injuring hundreds and destroying some villages, a local official told Reuters.

The early morning quake, which measured 6.4 on the Richter scale, also injured more than 1,000 people and was centered on the town of Zarand in Kerman province, about 440 miles southeast of Tehran.

The tremor came just over a year after a devastating earthquake in Bam, about 160 miles southeast of Zarand, in which some 31,000 people were killed in December, 2003.

the greed of old-power structures that commoditizes education... can be perceived as the root facilitator of terrorism. ignoring the desperately poor and uneducated parts of the world is what leads to an environment of ignorance that allows for fanatical terrorism

educate everyone = old disproportionate powers are highly marginalized. leave entire swaths of the world uneducated = terrorism is fostered in those regions and will eventually seek out the dominant powers

a balance must be struck between humanitarian charity in the form of public world-education and the consolidation and maintenance of old-power by those who have it
