I assume you have gear.
step one) master your gear
step two) master beat matching
step three) ask people to dj their parties or events, post mixes you have done online, try to get the word out. It's all about networking
if there is a scene in your area and if you don't suck you will get gigs
if there's no scene in your area you've got your work cut out for you, but there's nothing saying you can't forge new ground
Oh, and if you're just planning on djing high school dances or some lame bullshit like that you should just read billboard top 100 a lot and regurgitate that
i use virtual dj, tunebite and basic vid editing software and its been working out great
make sure you get smooth changes from each song
