I am buying speakers (5.1 preferred, stereo is also good if it is something fantastic) in range of upto 700€ but i have no idea how to go around and pick one.
There are just too many out there, and no good reviews (that i can find) to make my decision easier.

Klipsch and polk are good speakers that are pretty widely available as far as hi fi goes. Other good makes that may be tougher to track down where you live: paradigm, energy(good budget), mirage etc... there's actually an article i found after a few moments of searching that might help. http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/speakers/3034/top-speakers-in-every-class.html
Also be sure to have money for a good amp to drive them properly, if you go to a store the guys there might know what's up or just push whatever they sell, http://www.audiogon.com/ is a great place to look for used gear.
