Song Identifying Software

I have been wondering about this for some time, so I dragged myself out of my usual /b/tardery for a visit. Tell me /music/ is there a program (or are there programs if my head has been this far up my ass) that would be able to analyze an mp3 file and tell me the track name and artist who did it?

 I've got a lot of individual files from cd's given to me by women I've long since given up on contacting, and making a sport of submitting them to youtube and asking you doesn't seem like a good way to spend sunday.

I don't think such a thing is possible. If you had a database of songs you could have the program compare with that database, but in that case you might already recognise the song. Your best bet is to try and guess who the artist is and go from there.

Unless the song is in the Top 50 hits, I assure you, it will get it wrong.

It does exist, Tunatic seems to be the most recommended but I'm gonna lurk some forums and see if it has spyware before I dive

Windows media player 11 is good if you at least have the song name.

Go to a record shop

Use freedb, you can get that as an extension for the music program foobar2000.

It works for me most of the time.

Verizon has an app downloadable through the "Get it Now" thing on verizon phones that actually does a pretty good job, even with obscure stuff. I use it a lot and it's able to identify songs playing as background music in stores, etc.
