What is a bad band?

Name: Anonymous 2008-12-28 5:06

Pretty much any band that cares more about how tight their pants are and how long their bangs are more than the music.

Thoughts? Am I right

Also, tell us a band that you absolutely HATE.

there really are no bad bands because music, like all forms of art, is subjective. there are bands who spend a lot more time on their music making it as technical and unique as they can. i don't really like a lot of indy and pop because its really simple and usually doesn't take much musical creativity to write. i'm not a big fan of rap and hip hop either but you have to take a different approach when listening to it because its completely lyrically based. many rappers are completely tone deaf.

With that said, I think Kanye West is a dirty piece of shit who has less musical talent and innovation then a retarded Pomeranian. he give's the true meaning to the word nigger and is a piece of shit who cares more about money than his music. I mean come on, gold digger and broke nigger. its not even creative let alone rhyme. what a fucking tool

Jonas Brothers = worst band of all time. Not only do they suck ,but they could very well destroy rock music as we know it, all for a few bucks in Disney's pocket and few fleeting years of fame a relevance for them. I know that there's always been boybands like that, and there always will be. But it's the fact that they call themselves rock that puts them on a whole new level of douchiness. Someone's got to stop them, quick, before the kids that are 7-11 now grow up and think that corporate bullshit like that is rock.

Post 15, SHUT THE FUCK UP. Art isn't subjective. They are good painters and shit painters, good sculptors and shit sculptors, etc. The two criterion for art forms are emotional impact and public acclaim. For example, Brittany Spears is rich, but completely soulless and thus sucks. A lot of indie-craptank music is highly emotional, but since they're starving artists they suck. Yes, art can get better or worse over time.

Talking out your ass. Art is subjective, it has to be. You cannot define the quality of art. If you value it monetarily, I can point out plenty of vapid, meaningless, expensive art. If you value it in terms of complexity and technical mastery, I can point out plenty of pretentious, tasteless yet complex art. If you value it in terms of popular appeal, I can point out plenty of art that lacks any defining character or distinction, but is wildly popular.

The reason for this is that the concept of "value" exists outside of art. Art cannot be valued or placed into a hierarchy. It serves only the individual that witnesses it, and therefore does not become an economic entity.

>vapid, meaningless, expensive art
Violates first rule.
>complexity and technical mastery
Most likely violates BOTH rules.

I said EMOTIONAL IMPACT. It has to be created with and in feeling and meaning. All sane/normal human beings can detect emotion innately, so it still works. If you can be a professional artist, musician, or writer it is an economic entity. Fuck your indie/backpacker ideology.

I listen to mainsteam music and hold down a regular job in local government, in addition to being a conservative.

Music does not need to be emotional. Industrial music centres around the idea of dehumanisation - the antithesis of emotional stimulation.
