"Times Like These" by Foo Fighters
"Running Blind" by Godsmack
Pretty much everything by Nirvana and CCR is easy to learn as well.
Or, the tried-and-true beginner's song: "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple.

Err, wrong. A real guitar takes actual skill to play. And distortion pedals only make effects, you still have to slide your hand up and down the damn neck to press whichever note you need to; unlike GH, where there are 5 buttons that play the highest note to lowest note like a fucking Sesame Street toy. Also, if it wasn't for music guitar hero wouldn't exist anyway, nigger. And I have beaten all the GHs that I've mentioned; you can't really tell me whether I have or not. lolfag.
most ramones' songs like blitzkrieg bop are very easy. they train you in enduring wrist and fingertip stress while doing powerchords, in moving a chord across the neck and thinking using key positions (3rd key, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th etc.). they are easy to learn, to understand and to modify.
system of a down songs are also easy, but more elaborate, as they have arpeggios, little solos, and a particular tuning which eases powerchords. they teach you to be more versatile, and are somewhat harder to learn.
simple blues songs and simple adaptions of classical baroque music are also important for scales and learning licks.
internet is a valuable source if you don't know about those terms.
Fretboard Logic is pretty good. You can probably find it online somewhere, though I only saw a couple of dead torrents when I looked just now.

I've also started learning to play guitar. You should try reading a small book that teaches you how to strum correctly, pressing down on frets, how to read music and tablature, and several other basic things. Once you've learned that, try boosting your precision, timing, and strumming skills. As for songs, you could just pirate Guitar Pro 5 and get some tabs from ultimate-guitar.com. Only been playing for about a month and a half, but I'm getting somewhat better.
Oh and get a guitar teacher, if you can. I'll be looking for one pretty soon, myself.

Honestly, learning song by song works. Make guitar playing friends, talk to people at guitar clinics. If you can sign up for lessons, awesome!

I semi taught myself guitar
I regret it
I thought I was doing everything right. Playing is uncomfortable as fuck for me since I have so many bad habits. You'd be best off getting a lesson or two just to hold the guitar, fret a few chords, learn how to pick… and then you can start playing and even writing songs. You don't need a lot of skills to impress people on guitar
