Black Metal!

Black metal is a subgenre of heavy metal, that unlike death emtal isn't trying to be as brutal and aggressive as possible, but dark, epic and atmospheric.
A lot of the early bands are from Norway, good stuff like Gorgoroth, Burzum and Immortal.

Ya I like Black Metal. I"m new to the metal scene, i dl most of my music and it's hard to find old albums and stuff, so all i know are from live videos on youtube. I searched blackmetal and i found a video of Mayhem, and then i clicked on related links and stuff and found out some other bands like Immortal and stuff. Black Metal is cool, but i dono about the term Black. lol nowadays it has a different meaning. have you ever seen a black person in a black metal band, lol the irony.

When I listen to this one Emperor song called "Introduction," (track 5 on Wrath of the Tyrant) I get really fucking horny for some reason. It makes me imagine being raped by some evil vampire chick.

of bass in their symphonies, and those bands the first guy listed most of them arent that great, Gorgoroth is really the only good one he put up their, try listening to Dissection (most of you will say melodic death, but it is more black and their is Melodic Black which is what it is) Mayhem, Norther, just look around at Norwegian, Finnish and Swedish Metal bands they always cook up the sweetest, and try listening to Lacuna Coil (Cristina Scabbia is a total babe) and Disarmonia Mundi both of which are from Italy

Black is a shitty version of doom for people who really can't handle a slow beat. Doom metal (especially drone) is fucking orgasmic, but black seems like taking the cheap way out by maintaining melodic singing and a normal pace

Venom coined the name Black Metal and their music was thrashy and influenced a lot of the black metal sound, along with the likes of Celtic Frost and Bathory, but Euronymous and Dead and Burzum really created the black metal scene in Norway in the late 80s and early 90s, until Dead killed himself due to the rise of USA death metal and its laid back scene which was killing black metal. When Euronymous arrived home to find Dead well, dead he rushed out to get a camera and took photos of his body and took fragments of his skull which he carved into demonic figurines and neclaces which he sent to bands he saw as being worthy recipients, such as Emperor and Marduk. He also used a picture of Dead after his death as the cover for Dawn of the Black Hearts album against the wishes of the other band members. Later on there was tension between Euronymous and Burzum due to Euronymous not fulfilling his end of the deal with his recording label and not producing more copies of the Burzum album instead spending the profit on his own depts and his failing shop. Eventually Burzum drove to Euronymous flat and stabbed him to death while the guitarist Mayhem were playing with waited downstairs, clueless to what was happening until Euronymous fell down the stairs with Burzum running after him.
Burzum is still in Norwegian prison where he has been since 1993, except for a brief period where he escaped while on weekend leave and was caught in a stolen car with assault rifles, tons of ammo and other gear suggesting preparation for some sort of siege.
There are shitloads of other black metal related 'incidents' which help to distinguish it from death metal and other genres. Dissection singer Jon Nödtveidt was convicted of killing a 38 year old faggot in 1997 and was releasd from prison in 2004 and eventually released another album (which is a flopper) and killed himself in ritualistic style in 2006, deciding to end his life when he was strong by his own hands rather than waiting purposeless as an old man. Current singer for Gorgoroth Gahhl was sent to prison for torturing a faggot that made some pass at him. And don't forget the church burnings of the early 90s by the likes of Mayhem and emperor members (and Burzum as he took pictures and used one as an album cover)

There are so many good Black metal bands out there you just need to find some good blogs that have rapidshare and megaupload links to the albums. Mayhem, Burzum, Emperor, Enslaved, Marduk, Satyricon, Abigor, Ad Hominem, Bathory, Carpathian Forest, Blut Aus Nord, Darkthrone, Dark Funeral, Gorgoroth (their earlier stuff before Gahhl joined was better) Graveland, Summoning, Tsjuder, Immortal, Impaled Nazerene (although they do not like Norwegian BM and do not take orders from Norway!) Luna Ad Noctum, Moonblood, Moontower, Absurd, Naglfar, Nagelfar, Nachtfalke, Nargaroth, Nattefrost, Nokturnal Mortem, Shining, Satanic Warmaster, Sargeist, Celestia, Setherial, Taake, Ulvers early stuff, Totenburg, Woods of Belial for a kind of droney blackened sound, Xasthur and Judas Iscariot and Grand Belial's Key for some USBM to name a few bands to look for.

black metal is...ok. in my opinion its over-rated and overdone. so much of it sounds the same to me. be it the buzzsaw guitars, necro vocals, anti jesus themes, or way over the top 'im a tough metal guy' image. back in the day it was raw and awesome! especially 80s BM like Mercyful Fate, Celtic Frost, Bathory, and Venom to name a few. Origanal Norwegian BM was good, but then the artists allowed their image, Satan, to get in the way of their music. Now forever that genre in my eyes has dishonored itself, and given idiots like the PMRC more ammo against us. Of course my favorite BM band, Immortal, have evolved and moved on to become rather unique and very 'True Metal.' today i think that BM artists need to venture forth and attack more things than God. I just dont care anymore, its no longer rebellious or cool in any way. I love the brutality of it, but it needs to grow, mature, and evolve more. Not for sales or fans, but for the evolution and progress of the music, of metal itself. and not let our lives get too wraped up in our music where we can condone church burnings. yes i know that Christianity took over Scandinavia. Im norweigan and sweedish myself, i dont care though. that was a long time ago folks ive got better things to do with my time than spend it in jail cuz im just a wee widdle pissed of Nord with a zippo lighter. Fuck that! Satan is just an image, never a way of life. thats how we get blamed for fuck ups like Columbine. im interested in the future. lets hope other artists agree and that we push to take over the world and make it metal! lol
