When it comes to BM I usually listen to Immortal and early Darkthrone, Burzum and Mayhem. Awesome modern bands include Drudkh, Anaal Nathrakh and Aborym with an honorable mention going to Sunn O))) for their grim as fuck 'Black One' album.
Try Behemoth, even though they switched to death they are awesome!

Recommend me some decent melodic/symphonic that isn't Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir.

This is a Black Metal thread, kindly take your Nightwish and Arch Enemy faggery elsewhere.

Emperor were one of the first bands to add a touch of melody to the BM sound, check out the albums 'In The Nightside Eclipse' or 'IX Equilibrium'.

Not big into black metal or even death metal for that matter. But Opeth are pretty fucking talented. I'd say I'm a fan. Anyon into prog or death should check'em out

Windir, Forgotten Tomb, Blut Aus Nord, Alcest, Nachtmystium, Sigh, Xasthur, Vinterland, Drudkh, Vreid, and Amesoeurs probably round out my favorites.
