why the hell do people like them so much? they have mediocre skills on a good day and in all fairness most of there songs are boring as fuck.

Toad is a better solo, but that's irrelevant. Nobody can make a good, half-hour-long drum solo. It can't be done, Bonham was a wanker for trying, and his fans are idiots for pretending to enjoy it. He was one of the top 3 drummers of all time, but that does NOT mean he can solo for 20 fucking minutes and not bore the shit out of anyone with taste and honesty.
