Hard Work or Natural Talent?

Name: Anonymous 2007-02-21 6:40 ID:OljC+TzV

Which is more important when learning an instrument: natural talent or hard work?

I'm trying to learn guitar and I'm getting very frustrated. I work hard every day, but I don't seem to be improving at all. What's the deciding factor? What determines whether I'll be good or not?

to play hard stuff yuo need ability which you learn. there is no such thing really as natural talent. you just have to learn to play the guitar as you hear and be creative.

I would second that. "natural talent" is usually misattributed to someone who practices 16 hours a day. Just remember to be creative and find ways to have fun while you suffer through learning chords or scales or whatever it is you're having problems with.

Well, both are really helpful. But if you don't have a natural talent, you'll have to work harder, but you should take baby steps.

some of the best pros never practiced. in fact some of them don't even play the "correct" way.

Hard work is emo, real men have natural talent.

There is natural talent, but natural talent doesn't mean you are good, practice makes perfect. Hard work is most important when learning an instrument, trust me on this one.

Nah most amazing players have been playing since they were like 6. I would like to learn an instrument but I wouldn't at my current age.

If you want to master something take these simple steps:

1. try and fail
2. think what made you fail
3. correct it and try again
4. succeed and repeat step 1

It's really simple, for example i am a drawing artist
When i am drawing i look at my painting and i say
"why this looks like crap? It's because i don't draw the hands like they should be drawn!"
Then i look at a painting with some good hands drawn and i copy it, then i copy it with some modifications, then i make my own.
