I traveled around australia and everyones definition of emo is different, in perth offspring is emo, in melbourne my chemical romance, in sydney radiohead.

The Offspring thru the 90's post-Epitaph would be considered commercial punk rock. But it's rock, lame or not - emo is not rock. Therefore The Offspring is not emo.
Offspring isn't emo. Offspring are classed as pop punk, and in my opinion the only pop punk band that is actually good. Anyway, Sunny Day Real Estate is emo, offspring sound nothing like them, so I'd choose to believe they are not emo, but just punk. Some of their early stuff is a lot more close to 80s hardcore punk/punk rather then emo or pop punk.
