i'm not really into christian rock (but i have nothing against it, either). yes, they are christian rock, not goth or whatever. i don't know. it sure produced a lot of goth posers after they made it big.
Gay, so is Lacuna Coil, the only good gothic bands are Silentium and Sins Of Thy Beloved

Their songs are good... once. Even the best songs start to suck when they're played on the radio several times a day, every day.
At one of my old jobs, the only radio station that came in with any clarity whatsoever was one of those godawful top-ten stations - the kind of station where if you listen to it for six hours, you've heard all the music they're ever going to play for the next five weeks.
Short story even shorter: Commercial radio made me hate Evanescence.

Not goth at all.
Check out real goth like Bauhaus, Christian Death, Joy Division, early Cure, and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
As for Evanescence- not a Christian band or goth or metal. Ben Moody was Christian and you can here it on some of their old songs like "October", but they dropped that. I think their good. "Fallen" is vastly overrated, but it's catchy. The new one has some good orchestration, but I prefer their old stuff. Their old stuff had good singing and Amy Lee was really emotional. The music wasn't overdone because they were independent, and it didn't try to fit into any genre.

I bought their first CD.
I tried to sell it back to a used CD shop, but they said they had too many copies already.
It serves as a coaster now, along with a Kid Rock CD.
Joy Division isn't really goth, they were literally post-punk, something that embraced Punk's rejection of baroque composition for more 'raw' material but also the opposite of Punk's sound... something more about more layered, nuanced and subtle soundscapes and atmospheres instead of over-distorted chords of rebellion.
