I have an intense hatred for System of a Down.  This is not what it sounds like--every once in awhile, I listen to one of their songs and I'm all like "yay".  But I hate the band, the songwriters, because in their old songs they do this certain type of singing and rhythm that is totally awesome, but then they fuck it up by moving on to screaming.  Cockteasing assholes.

Nobody hardly ever claims SOAD is metal, or even trying to be, unlike Korn/Papa Roach/Whatever band is popular these days. I like metal; I also like SOAD, despite the fact it's not metal.

They're alright, Toxcicity is really good.  But their politics are pretty shallow.  And you have to admit, Serj is a really good singer, malakian needs to shut the hell up.

Yeah; the best thing for SoaD would be if they disbanded and Serj became the vocalist of a jazz group.

System of a Down is the kind of band where when I first listen to their album there's maybe one song I like, two if it's really good. Then after about a year, I'll pick it up again and be like "Hey this actually isn't that bad" and like them a bit more. Plus they're better than 95% of the stuff on the radio today, so it's a small breath of fresh air whenever they come on when I'm in the company van that has no cassette tape or CD player.

Personally I can't stand System of a Dawn.  The vocals/singing suck and are constantly out of tune and the lyrics seem to have no meaning whatsoever other than "die die die."

The lyrics span a lot of different subjects, though the core subject matter is almost always politics (American, world, Armenian, etc).  It's just that a lot of the politics they concern themselves with involve death.  They've written a few songs about the Armenian genocide.

B.Y.O.B. is actually a quite complex song, lyrically.  Just try to read between the lines.
