Guitar for beginners

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-20 19:30

I posted this on /b/ but they laughed at me and threw copypasta.

So I've never touched an instrument in my life, but i've always wanted to. I love metal, so I want to learn to play an electric guitar. What do I need to know?

is this a good deal?

Can anyone relate their 'how I learned' stories?

Word of advice, avoid Behringer, I've nothing but bad things about quality control, and besides they're mostly an audio electronics company which calls into doubt the quality of that guitar...

Besides, if you wanna play metal, go for a guitar with humbuckers!

Also avoid starter kits, the amp invariably sucks. Instead go for something like this...

With this amp...

And this tuner...

The amp above has pretty good digital modeling, and is a great practice amp, I use one myself, I also use the tuner, but I have nicer guitar, a Red Fender Stratocaster.

Also http://guitargeek.com/ has some great forums.
