All faeces has a strong smell, even hard dry stool gives off an odor which we evolved for millions of years to detect, a primal warning hard wired into our brains, one crucial for our survival.

I for one cannot get over the fact that such a thing is inside me, that it must descend my colon before it leaves my body. For this reason I try to evacuate once a day, cut down on astringent teas and such things that might contribute to constipation and eat a lot of soluble and insoluble fiber. Considered prune juice but I fear I might gain a dependence on it.

It is probably good advice in general. Hemorrhoids or worse an increased risk of bowel cancer are things that one ought to take preventative measures against.
