It's obnoxious for employees to speak another language in front of customers, and they often do it because they don't want the customer to know what they're saying, ie they're saying rude things about the customer. It's always amusing when you catch them, because they arrogantly assume that white people can't understand Spanish, Chinese, or Hindi. Whole Foods employees shouldn't be discussing "personal things" while they're working anyway, so no need for Spanish.
