By its very nature, nothing is guaranteed in a "free market".

Therefore nothing is automatic.

In a free market, it doesn't matter how hard you work, you "might" get a promotion because your employer has the freedom to do whatever he wants.

In a regulated socialist state, you are watched and you get what you earn.

In an unregulated free market people have the freedom to not give people what they earn. Not give people what they're guaranteed. Not reward merit. Etc.
