How is age "just a number"?

Try starting a conversation between a ten year old and a twenty year old.  Both are males btw.  The boy thinks he knows a whole lot more than the 20-something guy, so he acts all wise and calls him things like "gay" and a "dickweed".  What the boy does not know is that the 20-something guy has spent all those years in grade school, high school, and is going through his first college trimester.  Got a bunch of books in hand too, so he's fucking exhausted from studying.  In this case, he obviously knows how fucking hard life can be as you get older, something the kid will never learn unless he spends his next ten years without calling older people names or dropping out of school.

So tell me, if that phrase is "true", do you ever spend a whole decade learning nothing?
