The series of books is called Math Makes Sense. It is written with the idea of "discovery learning" or learning by "investigation". That is to say, there is a lack of actual instruction in the text about how to figure stuff out. The Facebook page says: MATH MAKES SENSE BOOKS don't make sense!!!!!! >:(
