Memes were fun when they were...memes, but now the lines are blurred between what's a meme, fad, semantic change, Internet phenomenon, funny picture, catchphrase, etc.
Was ``troll'' a Usenet meme? What about ``hacker'' or sentences like ``fuck me harder''?
Overall I think they were just more fun when they were 4chan-specific. We didn't coin the term and probably weren't the first on the Web to use it, but it had a fairly clear meaning and didn't have the obnoxiousness about it that

I consider myself an easygoing person and I'm certainly not a /b/tard who hates change or thinks everything should be a secret club, but whenever I'm talking to a 14-year-old on Omegle and she says ``lol nyan cat is my fave meme ^_^'' I want to stab her in the balls.
