You seem to be confusing the definition of troll with that of some other word. A troll is someone that makes off-topic threads/replies in an attempt to start a flame war. While I sometimes make off-topic replies, I don't participate in flame wars (flame warring is quite juvenile), and I never make off-topic threads. Children these days tend to think that trolling means flaming/joking/role-playing. The term should have remained buried in USENET lore.
