how do you handle rap slang in public

I consider it to be a form of gross pretense to use rap slang in normal conversation.  In the 1970s, we had jive, and it was acceptable to say, "I'm sorry, I don't speak jive," and rely upon a friendly nun from the city church to translate on the airplane.
