Some won't care about your employment status if you can connect with them well enough. I haven't had a job in eight years! This hasn't stopped me, although in my twenties I used to rely on the whole 'I'm in a band' shit. There's always an angle though. You're writing a novel, you're a budding artist, hell any old shit will work if you're young. I'm currently coasting on being a mature student and the fact that I'll be going into teaching abroad when I get my degree. Might not even happen, but if you're in your thirties you have to have a better line in bullshit than being in a band or being a poet. If you're young you don't even need that crap, they don't expect you to have found your way yet.
